The reading/language arts program has been designed to build leaders in the field of literacy instruction from kindergarten through community college levels. The program helps teachers develop balanced and meaning-focused literacy instruction to serve all pupils, especially English-language learners. Coursework examines the reading/writing process, phonics, assessment, linguistics, writing instruction, literature for the classroom and instructional strategies designed to meet the needs of a wide range of learners. Across the program, a focus on successful practice for English language learners is emphasized.
