Admissions Requirements

  • Application form and fee
  • Orientation interview (meet with program director for education plan)
  • Statement of Intent (1-2 pages explaining your goals)
  • Three references (see form below)
  • CEBEST exam results
  • CSET/multiple subject exam results
  • Addendum - special education (see form below)
  • Academic writing sample (copy of a recent paper you have submitted for a class or read an article related to your program of interest and give an analysis of it)
  • Verification of current negative TB test (last 12 months)
  • Official transcripts of all institutions attended verifying degree*
  • Letter of explanation if your GPA is under 2.75

*Out of state credentials considered on an individual basis.

Up to 9 current units may be transferred into the program.

Technology Recommendation: In order to prepare future teachers to effectively use technology, students are highly encouraged to have access to a laptop for all course work and class meetings.

If simultaneously applying for the master of arts and Level II education specialist credential program, a candidate must possess a Level I education specialist credential (as approved by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing) and be able to meet all requirements for the Level II program. A candidate who seeks only the master of arts degree and does not desire a specialist credential will be required to have a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution. Advisement and an official program plan must be developed prior to the initiation of any coursework in the master of arts program.
