Overview

This certificate incorporates sound theoretical foundations of autistic spectrum disorders and current best practices in assessment, communication and intervention. Candidates learn basic concepts in autism research and education that are the foundation for understanding the patterns of behavior, social abilities and language difficulties that unfold in students with autism spectrum disorders. Emphasis is placed on the research and theoretical foundations for common autism interventions and autism program quality indicators. Participants will understand how assessment drives planning for interventions, and the importance of family, law and current research in developing systems of support. Candidates who complete and hold an education specialist credential have the option to earn an autism added authorization.
